Ivy House Healthcare Clinical Director, Declan Ryan, is a formally trained Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) who specialises in the field of forensic mental health/forensic psychiatry.
Declan worked in forensic mental health since 2006, and previously as a mental health nurse from 1999 – 2006, spending many years working for NSW health at Liverpool Local Court as a statewide community and court liaison officer.
Declan has an ability to expertly and comprehensively assess, diagnose, treat, and provide recommendations for treatment for mental health illnesses and conditions. He utilises systems theory through a biological, psychological, social, and spiritual framework, with a multi therapy approach including narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and mindfulness.
Declan is an expert in the provision of comprehensive Psychiatric Court Reports, understanding and applying the NSW Mental Health and Cognitive Impairment Forensic Provisions Act 2020. He has gained this experience through his work in forensic mental health and general mental health service provision.
Declan is an accredited person under the NSW Mental Health Act 2007 and is an expert in the understanding and application of both the NSW Mental Health Act 2007 and NSW Mental Health and Cognitive Impairment Forensic Provisions Act 2020.
Declan has regularly delivered education sessions to multidisciplinary mental health teams about the intersection of forensic mental health and general and acute care mental health.
Declan is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, is a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses and is an associate member of the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners.
